Kurt Gutmann
The story started with the young and talented Kurt Gutmann, the son of a banker in pre-war Germany, wanting to be a jeweler instead of a banker. Kurt worked hard to earn a rare and highly prized apprenticeship with the prestigious German jewelry company Giuseppe Knoll. Afterwards, he decided to concentrate on the Italian market, opening many new and successful fine jewelry accounts. When the totalitarian flames spread through Europe, Kurt moved to New York, entering the U.S. Army. At the war's end, in 1945, he returned to Europe as an American citizen, where he renewed old acquaintances and was eager to import their high quality gold jewelry to the U.S. The Kurt Gutmann line includes chokers, bracelets, earrings, and other gold accessories in both 14kt and 18kt, and the Gemhancible Collection in mainly 18kt gold. This fine array of jewelry, coupled with strong service and support, has been responsible for the company's exceptional growth.
