Diamonds with the naked eye
The face-up appearance of a beautiful diamond consists of three separate factors: Brightness, Fire, and Scintillation.
Brightness is actually the white light reflected from a diamond when viewed face-up. An Ideal-Cut diamond has the ability to reflect more white light from the center.
Fire, refers to the appearance, or extent, of colors you see when light is dispersed from a diamond. This is predominately visible coming from the crown facets and is enhanced when a diamond is cut to the correct proportions.
Scintillation, is composed of two elements:
The first part is Sparkle. Look for the flashing effect of light, when viewing a diamond that is being moved. It is a flash on and off effect that is reflected from the individual facets.
The second part is Pattern. This is the visual appearance of bright and dark areas that are the result of all facets being symmetrically balanced.
Beyond the naked eye!
When shopping for a diamond, it is essential to remember the 4 C'-s during your search. The 4 C's stand for Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Each of these individual elements should be taken into consideration when choosing your diamond. And remember, not everyone will have the same priorities when selecting their diamond. It is up to you to decide which are the most important characteristics of your diamond. However, keep in mind that Color and Cut are the first thing others will notice about your diamond.
Cut
The actual cut of the diamond must be proportionally balanced. Once the cut is perfected and balanced, the brilliance of the diamond will show through. A diamond can be cut in many shapes, such as round, pear, heart, oval, marquise, emerald, and princess cut. The chart below illustrates popular cuts and shapes. And remember, that only a round diamond can be labeled as Ideal cut.
PICTURE
THE IDEAL CUT
When a master cutter has cut a round diamond to Ideal proportions, it is a sight to behold. The Ideal Cut Diamond describes a round brilliant diamond that has been cut to exact and mathematically proven proportions. It's symmetry, with 58 exactly placed facets, produces the ultimate in luster and beauty. As you can see from the chart below, not only are the table and depth percentage restricted, but the angles of the crown and pavilion must also be within certain limits.

PREMIUM CUT
A Premium Cut diamond demonstrates subtle variations from the Ideal Cut. Although dimensional differences affect a diamond's reflection of light, a Premium Cut still achieves a harmonious balance between its proportions and the display of brilliance. It also allows the retention of more weight on the diamond, allowing for a slightly lower value per carat.

INFERIOR CUT
Many diamonds are 'spread' in their cutting to allow for maximum weight retention from the original rough. A heavier diamond will result, but at a dramatic sacrifice of potential fire and brilliance. A table that exceeds 61% of the total depth is a warning to be cautious. You will end up paying more, because it weighs more than if properly cut.
TOO DEEP
When a diamond is cut too deep, light leaks out of the bottom, brilliance is lost and the center of the diamond will appear to be dark. Again, you are paying for weight that should have been removed.
TOO SHALLOW
When a diamond is cut too shallow, light leaks out of the bottom, brilliance is lost and the diamond appears watery, glassy and dark. The white shadows you see in the center are a reflection of the girdle of the diamond.
Color
Most diamonds, although appearing colorless, actually have slight tones of yellow or brown. As these tones become more easily apparent, the rarity and the cost decrease. An Ideal-cut diamond has the ability to appear whiter than another diamond of the same color.
Diamonds also come in a variety of colors graded as Z+, which include red, pink, blue, green, brown and yellow (known as "canary"). These naturally colored diamonds are categorized as "Fancy Colored" diamonds which are very rare and can sell for more than a white diamond.

Clarity
All diamonds are not perfect! Practically all diamonds contain natural internal characteristics called inclusions. These flaws come in many different forms such as, imbedded crystals, carbon and fine internal veins called feathers. The size, nature, location, and amount of inclusions determine a diamond'-s clarity grade and affect its cost.
Another unique advantage of the Ideal-Cut is that its sparkle can mask otherwise noticeable inclusions.

Carat Weight
When selecting a diamond, size matters but remember that quality is more important. Diamonds are measured in carats. One carat is divided into 100 parts called points,AR Ic ct. = 0.50. The value of two diamonds of the same weight can vary greatly depending on Color, Clarity, and especially the Cut.

An Ideal-Cut diamond retains less weight than a spread or poorly cut diamond. Therefore, you will pay for less weight and receive the maximum brilliance. If you purchase a poorly cut diamond, you will be paying for extra weight that should not be there.
We look forward to showing you in person our beautiful selection of Ideal and Premium Cut diamonds.
