In 1897, Biagio DeNatale and his young family sailed from Italy to New York City to discover their dream.  Biagio had studied watch making in France and was an accomplished engraver and goldsmith.  His wife Adelina, and their young children would provide a trusted sales force.

In The New World, they opened their first jewelry store within “Little Italy”, commonly know as the Lower East Side.  Subsequently they relocated to Grand Street and lived above the store.  The security system in those days consisted of a small Peep Hole in the floor.

The children quickly mastered their trade and in 1908 the two eldest sons ventured to Wall Street and established The DeNatale Jewelry Company.  Around 1923, Peter joined them full time as a skilled engraver and designer.  Several years later, Peter and his youngest brother Blaise founded DeNatale Brothers on Maiden Lane.

The partnership provided Peter with many opportunities to use his design talent.  The following years fulfilled his love and pride of providing good jewelry design. He was frequently asked to design and produce rings and crosses for the clergy of the New York Diocese.  His reputation for this work broadened and he was soon designing for clergy throughout of the country.

With a loyal following and the assistance of his sons, Peter founded Peter DeNatale Inc. at 170 Broadway, the same building which houses the Downtown showroom.  During this period there were three separate stores being operated by members of the family. The three enterprises prospered until Peter’s older brothers where ready to retire, Peter and his four sons, consolidated the three businesses into one.

Today, as we enter the 21st Century, you will find us, the next generation, Peter Jr., Robert, John and Jim, and our courteous staff faithfully devoted to assisting your jewelry requests.
